Nashville Electric Service 11th Avenue Substation

Nashville Electric Service 11th Avenue Substation

Awards Category  : :  Large Project (over 25,000 sf)

The 11th Avenue Substation is an open-air facility, housing NES electrical equipment. The design balances form and function, elevating a substation to a developing neighborhood enhancement.

Located in the Gulch District, the 11th Avenue Substation seamlessly integrates public infrastructure into the residential fabric of the neighborhood. The open-air structure features a highly branded exterior skin along an expanded pedestrian and cycling corridor to promote urban activation. Located on a tight urban site, the facility conceals NES equipment while the perforated fin and gill facade allows the building to breathe. Easy-open hangar doors along 11th Avenue provide quick access to mechanical equipment and camouflage back into the facade when closed.
