Our project is a renovation / addition to a mid-century ranch home located in the West Meade area of Nashville. Relocating the main staircase, reworking some of the floor plans for more open concept at gathering spaces, and increasing exterior views and daylighting were the main goals of this project. The interior design then aimed at bringing in modern textures and patterns to elevate the laid back vibe of all of the reworked spaces and more.

This renovation reimagined the enclosed spaces of this mid-century ranch home to be an open concept floor plan that met the needs of the owners. Both levels of the home we reworked to incorporate more open gathering spaces, while providing a cozy and inviting aspect to each designated area. At the main level, structural walls were removed and replaced with steel structure above the ceiling to create the open concept. The main living space is created with a zone of a vaulted ceiling and visual connection through the screened porch to the outdoors. At the basement level, spaces were reallotted to transition to a guest quarters along with a laundry room, wine storage, and a workout space.
Previously, the main stair of the house was positioned in the middle of the house – disjoining spaces and not providing an enjoyable user experience. A second stair traveled from the kitchen directly down to the garage – creating more compartmental moments in the floor plan. Those 2 staircases were removed and replaced with one staircase that worked efficiently while magnifying the connection to the outdoors. Views of the large backyard and landscaped pool area are visible while on the stairs and both levels of the house. The existing porch was replaced with a screened in porch for a more useful space year-round while maintaining daylight and views at the interior spaces.
An overall update to the interior design gave the house a cohesive and clean aesthetic that met the owners need and style. The design emphasizes the architecture and the views to the beautiful property but also provides fun details with pattern, texture, and color. These interior concepts were then translated to an updated look for the exterior of the house.
